A Spotlight on: Fiona Trup

We sat down with FunctionalDX Practitioner Fiona Trup to find out why she chooses FDX and why she recommends it to other practitioners. You can watch the video of our discussion below or keep scrolling to read the blog version.

Fiona Trup's Practitioner experience

Fiona had been working with clients on their health journeys for 23 years when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. During a year of chemotherapy, a full mastectomy and radiotherapy, Fiona found she had a lot of time for research, and this led her to investigate what was being put in the products that she was using on an everyday basis in her clinic. What she found during her research caused her a considerable amount of alarm; one particular product had a huge amount of endocrine disrupting ingredients.

I had to start again, and, and bring in new products that I knew that were actually good enough to be using and could actually help. And so that's where my journey really as far as changing the way that that I was working. And I also realised that something had to happen for the women that I was seeing.

How Fiona Trup became a FunctionalDX Practitioner

When she found herself working with a large number of clients experiencing acne, PCOS and Endometriosis, Fiona turned to FDX to better support them in transforming their health. Fiona was finding that those female clients were arriving at her door feeling helpless, having already consulted doctors and dermatologists.

Initially it comes across as being an expensive test, but actually by going through 80 different markers, we get to tie up all the ends and the client suddenly gets this light bulb moment. They’ll confess that actually they have been feeling tired as well. And that could be their thyroid, or a simple thing such as low Vitamin D or Zinc levels; things that can have a huge impact on acne, in both male and females. These really are such important blood readings, specifically for people who have got chronic acne because there are always underlying reasons.

What FunctionalDX blood panels does Fiona Trup use?

The Femme Ultra is Fiona’s go-to panel as it includes markers on testosterone, DHEA, progesterone and sex hormone binding globulin which are the main markers she needs to look at when it comes to clients with acne or PCOS. This panel also includes adrenal markers and thyroid insights which can also be incredibly useful when supporting these clients.

A case study from Fiona Trup where hidden dysfunctions were identified

Fiona recently supported a young woman who arrived desperate for a solution as she had seen a dermatologist three times in the last two years after being prescribed drugs for severe acne; she had entered a cycle of the drugs working for a while and then the acne returning. The client presented an unusual issue as it is uncommon for the acne to return after 3 courses of the medication she was on. This of course led to Fiona questioning what was going on beneath the surface for this client.

The face is actually a diagnostic unit. When you are getting acne in various parts of your face, the chin, that is a female cyclical marker, the forehead is actually showing digestive markers. Delving deeper we discovered she had had a bad stomach bug years ago, which she had seen her doctor about, and the doctor had identified a parasite, but no further action was taken. FDX helped to identify where we can actually help her now.

Why does Fiona Trup choose FunctionalDX?

FDX blood testing represents, to me, the future of blood testing. Helping to identify those hidden markers in the blood, so that we can treat effectively, and I can't recommend it enough. Honestly FDX has become part of my everyday life within my clinic.
